SWEARING IN BRANDIE OWENS – COUNCIL POST # 3

“Do you solemnly swear that you will faithfully perform the duties of Councilmember Post 3 of the City of Rutledge and that you will support and defend the charter thereof as well as the constitution and laws of the State of Georgia and the United States of America.” Brandie Owens said, “I do.”

Council member Owens signed and dated the oath of office.

APPOINTMENT OF MAYOR PRO-TEM

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Adam Beckstine made motion to approve the minutes of the January 18, 2022, minutes as submitted. Brenda Thompson seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.

PARKING LOT UPDATE

Mayor Altznauer advised the council that the parking lot was going quickly. There have been some hiccups but nothing they cannot handle. The City of Madison had to re-run the gas lines because they were not at the correct depth. They will pressurize the lines tonight and cut the gas on tomorrow. The contractor came across a septic tank yesterday, but it has now been disposed of. They are now leveling the lot and building boxes for storm drains. I am really pleased with the contractor and all is going well. We will be adding 29 parking spaces with 3 being handicap, making it a total of 32 spaces. They are adding 35 feet off the back of all the stores for outdoor dining. Sidewalks will come down and around Martha Lane. Cars can exit on Fairplay or East Main. I am hearing very positive feedback about the parking lot.

Council member Tony Sells asked if Dr. Hughes building was finished. Mayor Altznauer stated that it was until we get the parking lot finished and then they will need to hook up their lines to the water and sewer. The Garden Club has agreed to plant and maintain a space in the parking lot. Tony Sells asked if there would be designated parking. Mayor Altznauer said it would be first come first serve.

Mayor Altznauer informed the council the Conservancy would be coming to Rutledge to walk around and identify historic sites.

Brenda Thompson made motion to adjourn at 6:10 pm. Tony Sells seconded, all voted in favor and motion carried.
